Green County, Wisconsin is a rural county in the south-central part of the state, with Monroe as the county seat. The county’s court system generates records spanning criminal, civil, family, probate, and traffic matters that document every stage of judicial proceedings — from initial filing through final judgment. These records contain information such as case type, case number, filing date, party names, dates of birth, charges, attorney names, branch IDs, court dates, and case disposition.
Wisconsin residents looking for court case information have several paths available, including direct requests to clerk offices, in-person review at the courthouse, and online search tools. WisconsinCourts.us can be a useful starting point for locating publicly available court case information across Wisconsin’s circuit and appellate courts, including Green County.

The Green County Clerk of Circuit Court is the official custodian of all court records filed in the county’s Circuit Court. The office preserves records across case types including civil, criminal, family, felony, misdemeanor, small claims, traffic, forfeiture, juvenile civil, paternity, and prisoner inmate cases.

Are Court Records Public in Green County?
The Wisconsin Open Records Law (Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31–19.39) establishes a broad presumption of public access to government records, including court records. Under this law, the denial of public access is generally contrary to the public interest, and access may only be restricted in exceptional circumstances defined by statute or court order.
Unless sealed by the court or otherwise confidential by law, circuit court files and documents in Green County are open for public inspection at no cost. Cases typically available for public review include civil, criminal, family, paternity, small claims, traffic, forfeiture, ordinance violations, state tax liens, construction liens, hospital liens, and probate matters.
However, certain categories of records are confidential and restricted to eligible parties such as case participants, their attorneys, or individuals holding a court order. Confidential record categories in Green County include:
- Juvenile records (entirely excluded from the WCCA public system)

Small claims matters in Wisconsin carry lower filing fees than standard civil cases. For small claims, statewide fees are set under Wisconsin’s circuit court fee tables. Self-represented parties filing civil documents should use black ink on all forms, as the Court’s scanners do not process blue ink reliably. All documents must be filed with the Clerk at least 48 hours before any scheduled hearing.
The Clerk does not maintain records from other Wisconsin circuit courts or from established municipal courts that handle their own actions.
Green County Family Court Records
Family Court matters in Green County — including divorce, paternity, child support, and child custody — are presided over by the Family Court Commissioner. The current Family Court Commissioner is R. Scott Jacobson, reachable at (608) 328-9429 or by email at fcc@greencountywi.org.
All family law filings must be submitted to the Clerk of Circuit Court at the Justice Center, not to the Family Court Commissioner’s office directly. Filings must be submitted at least 48 hours before a scheduled hearing. Electronic filing is available to self-represented litigants by creating an account on the Wisconsin court system’s eCourts platform for a one-time $20 setup fee.
The Family Court Commissioner handles:
- Divorce and annulment proceedings
- Legal separation
- Child custody and placement orders
- Child support determinations
- Paternity establishment
- Domestic violence injunctions and child abuse restraining orders
- Hearings involving the Child Support Agency (CSA)
For hearings involving the Child Support Agency, parties without an attorney must contact the CSA at (608) 328-9460 at least two business days before the hearing date. A mandatory Divorce/Annulment Worksheet must be on file with the Clerk before a final divorce hearing can be scheduled.
All family hearings are currently conducted by Zoom video. Parties who have not received Zoom instructions at least one week before their hearing should contact the Family Court office by email at fcc@greencountywi.org. Wisconsin circuit court forms for divorce and family law are available through the Wisconsin Court System forms portal. When completing any court form, use black ink only.

Chapter 69, uncertified copies of birth records for children born to unmarried parents where paternity has not been legally established are not available to the general public. Probate filing fees in Wisconsin are set by statute and vary based on the size of the estate. Standard Wisconsin probate forms are available through the Wisconsin Court System’s probate forms portal.
To request copies of specific probate documents, contact the Register in Probate office directly. Provide the decedent’s name, the approximate filing date, and the case number if known. Prepayment is required, and payments can be made online at payGov.us or by check payable to the Clerk of Circuit Court. Mail requests should be sent to the Green County Justice Center address above, with a self-addressed stamped envelope if return by mail is needed.
